TEXT ON BACK:

Watson's Mill is located in the town of Manotick, Ontario, an historic and picturesque village located on the banks of the Rideau River, 12 miles South of Ottawa. The mill, situated in Dickinson Square, is older than Canada itself. The Mill was built by Moss Kent Dickinson and his partner, Joseph Currier, in 1880. Dickinson named the village Manotick, an Ojibwa Indian word meaning "Island in the River". The mill became known as Watson's Mill in 1946 when Harry Watson purchased it from the Spratt Family.

Thie watercolor cachte of Watson's Mill was painted by Cathy Genaw (nee MacLaurin) who grew up on Millview Street, just up the hill, South of the dam.

The artist grew up in Manotick in a house that had a view of Watson's Mill and the dam, therefore the First Day Cover is limited to the Watson's Mill stamp from the Canadian Mills booklet pane.

The mill was drawn by hand and watercolored using Winsor & Newton Artists' watercolors on 90# cold press watercolor paper. The painting was scanned, re-sized, and imported into MS PowerPoint .

The envelopes are individually hand-crafted of 25% cotton rag 24# Southworth Granite paper in gray. Each envelope is cut from a sheet using an Ellison Prestige Pro Cutter with a custom 6-3/4 envelope die.
