Only 15 made
Laser printed on Southworth White 32lb. acid-free watermarked paper. Each sheet is cut & crimped using a template, folded into envelope form, and finally glued only on the side flaps with acid-free glue.
The above cachet is a reproduction of an original hand-drawn/colored cachet for the 1945 3¢ USCG stamp - this is documented on the back of the cover under the flap. The original item is unsigned and illustrated below. The owner of the item, Richard Hoffner, says it depicts a "buck and a quarter" Coast Guard cutter, probably from the 1930's. He has no information in regard to who the artist is, nor how many were made. Most likely it is one of a kind. Given the quality of the artwork, it would be surprising if it is the only art on a First Day Cover produced by the artist! If you have any information that may lead to identifying the artist, please let me know - I will forward the information and your contact information to Richard in case he would like to discuss it further with you.
