Artwork and text arranged to fit a custom envelope template, laser printed on 8.5" x 11", Southworth White Business 32lb 100% Cotton paper. Each envelope was cut from that paper using an Ellison Prestige Pro Cutter with a custom 6-3/4 envelope die and hand-assembled. Only 18 were made.

Early Life of William Sydney Porter

(Picture of William at an early age at left) 150 years ago, William Sidney Porter was born in Greensboro, North Carolina on September 11th in 1862. His given middle name was Sidney which he changed to Sydney in 1898. His father was Dr. Algernon Sidney Porter, a physician, and Mary Jane Virginia Swaim Porter. At age three, William's mother died of tuberculosis. Shortly after this William and his father moved in with his grandmother. William Sydney Porter was constantly reading when he was a child. He loved to read everything from classics to dime novels. His favorite works were Lane's translation of One Thousand and One Nights, and Burton's Anatomy of Melancholy.

William Sydney Porter graduated from his aunt Evelina Maria Porter's elementary school in 1876. After which he enrolled at Lindsey Street High School. Evelina Maria Porter continued to tutor him until he was fifteen. William started working at his uncle's drugstore in 1879. At age nineteen, in 1881, he became a licensed pharmacist.
